Meet Tywauna ‘Coach Tee’ Wilson
Tywauna Wilson, MBA, MLS(ASCP)CM, is an accomplished laboratory leader, author, podcast host, and dedicated mentor. With her wealth of expertise, she serves as a guide and mentor for laboratory professionals, helping them excel in their careers by enhancing their leadership skills, expanding their influence, and making a lasting impact within their workplaces and communities. With nearly two decades of diverse experience in the medical laboratory and progressive healthcare leadership, Ms. Wilson is steadfast in her mission to empower and train one million leaders to lead with confidence and leave a legacy they can be proud of.
As the founder and President of Trendy Elite Coaching and Consulting, she develops best-in-class leaders through the firm’s Standout Leader Academy, coaching programs, and leadership training initiatives. The firm's mission is to connect organizations with a diverse range of skilled personnel, enabling them to navigate this new era of leadership with prepared, confident, and competent talent. In addition to her leadership programs, Tywauna is the author of the book, "Some Leaders Wear Lab Coats," and the host of the "eLABorate Topics" podcast. Through these platforms, she shares inspiring insights and invaluable lessons for medical laboratory leaders to excel both within and beyond the lab.
Ms. Wilson's journey in the laboratory profession began in 2004 when she served as a generalist in a high-volume reference laboratory. This role served as a solid foundation for her subsequent positions, including in her appointment as a hospital laboratory manager within just five years—a remarkable achievement at the time. Currently, she holds the position of System Technical Director of Chemistry at CompuNet Clinical Laboratories in Dayton, Ohio. In this role, she leverages her clinical expertise to provide strategic planning, standardization, implementation, and collaboration across ten laboratory sites.
She received her bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory sciences from Kentucky State University and an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. Her relentless pursuit of excellence has garnered her numerous accolades, including the esteemed 2023 Diversity MBA Media Top 100 Under 50 Emerging Leaders List, the 2021 ASCP Career Ambassador Award, and the 2021 Cardinal Health Laboratory Excellence List, among others. Furthermore, she has elevated her leadership skills by becoming a certified coach and trainer through the renowned John Maxwell Leadership program.
While achieving outstanding success in her own career, Tywauna 'Coach Tee' Wilson remains committed to uplifting her community and paving the way for future leaders. Whether she is giving young women early exposure to a career in lab science, providing guidance and support to new and current medical laboratory professionals, or serving as a featured speaker at local universities and conferences, her passion for mentoring sets her apart. From her work through the ASCP’s Workforce Steering and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committees, Ms. Wilson, has been recognized as an expert in the field and is a regular contributor to various laboratory magazines and industry podcasts.
